Job Description:
The Product Design Engineer is responsible for planning,
organization, control, integration, and completion of product
design projects within area of assigned responsibility. The role
will require application of sound engineering practices in a cost
effective manner in order to enhance customer satisfaction and
deliver innovative products to market. Must be able to work with
customers to define and document requirements, address technical
concerns and provide project status. Apply project management
skills when leading new product introductions and product
enhancements while working closely with Product Managers.Experience
Levels
- Level II
- Under supervision, performs work that is varied and that may be
somewhat difficult in character, but usually involves limited
responsibility.
- Some evaluation, originality or ingenuity is required.
- Capable of supporting project teams and ability to lead
significant tasks within projects.
- Level III
- Usually works with minimum supervision, conferring with
superior on unusual matters. May be assisted by Entry/Junior or
Intermediate Level personnel.
- Assignments are broad in nature, requiring originality and
ingenuity. Has appreciable latitude for unsupervised action or
decision.
- Capable of leading large scale multi-functional projects and
teams from initiating to closing of projects.Required Skills
Necessary For Each Level
- Level II
- Knows and applies the fundamental concepts, practices and
procedures of particular field of specialization.
- In-depth working experiential knowledge of Project Management
techniques and application.
- Level III
- Possesses and applies a broad knowledge of principles,
practices, and procedures of particular field of specialization to
the completion of difficult assignments.
- Significant knowledge of Project Management techniques, with
significant on the job application experience.Competencies Required
For Each Level
- Level II
- Intellect: positive participation and input in problem solving
and product design.
- Development: completed advanced training in required tools,
basic understanding of procedures.
- Written communication: able to articulate project status,
issues, recommendations, etc.
- Level III
- Intellect: positive participation and input in problem solving
and/or product design.
- Development: Fully competent in all tools relevant to primary
job functions. i.e. JDE, CAD, CFM, FEA, Statistical Analysis,
etc.
- Written Communication: Competence in developing presentations
or documents to convey important project information to higher
level executives. Competent to communicate directly with vendors
without misunderstanding.Required Experience
- Level II
- Degree Required - Bachelors of Science in Engineering (BSME
preferred)
- Additional Technical Training
- On-the-Job Experiential Training
- Formal course work related to Project Management with
continuous refresher education
- Level III
- Degree Required - Bachelors of Science in Engineering (BSME
preferred)
- Specialized Training
- Project Management Certification (PMP)
- Engineering and Industry certifications (PE, other)
