Job Description S&T Process Automation Engineer - Decatur, ILThis is a full-time, salaried position. ADM, a global leader in human and animal nutrition and the world's premier agricultural origination and processing company, has an opening for a Research Engineer II at our Corporate Research Center located in Decatur, IL!Position SummaryThe Process Automation Engineer will provide S&T pilot plant support of automation systems to ensure experiments are successful through guidance, troubleshooting, and standard work. They will work with S&T scientists, technicians, and engineers to execute projects while applying global standards.They will proactively seek opportunities for automation to mitigate risk, improve efficiency, and drive optimization projects. They will support and advance the standardization and documentation of automation systems.The Process Control Engineer/Specialist will also contribute to plant culture by supporting safety initiatives and Performance Excellence.Job ResponsibilitiesThe following represents most duties to be performed by the position but is not meant to be all-inclusive and will not prevent other duties from being assigned when appropriate.Perform all job functions in accord with company safety guidelines.Complete service requests for automation changes (sequential programming, interlocks, alarms, etc. due to process changes/additions).Assign module addressing for IO changes and additions.Coordinate with project engineers, operations, and contractors during check out and commissioning.Continuously look to implement improvements for safety, efficiency, and sustainability.Identify opportunities for improvement to better align S&T with corporate standards, identify gaps, establish sustainability regarding automation to nurture further growth.Support the implementation and maintenance of automation systems, adhering to all current preferred vendors, standards, and best practices where applicable.Spec, quote and order all IO (system design (power needs, locations, etc.), IO panel design (power needs, locations, etc.), field wiring, IO needs, etc.).Review and upgrade existing infrastructure for incoming projects (power needs, locations, etc.).Discuss and coordinate with project engineers the design basis, procurement, and implementation of instrumentation and controls for projects by means of User Requirements and/or Control Narratives based on available Process and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&ID).The individual is expected to be able to work safely from operating procedure guidelines and, after adequate training and experience, be able to perform tasks with minimal supervision.Skills and Proficiencies2+ years of experience with process control in an industrial environment.Experience with Emerson DeltaV preferred, Experience with Allen Bradley, Novatech D/3 systems, Rockwell PlantPAx applications also helpful.Familiarity with data historians such as OSIsoft PI.Familiarity with Industrial Networks (i.e. TCP/IP, ControlNet--, DH+, Modbus, etc.).Knowledge of Industrial Process Control including instrumentation, AC/DC Electrical systems, Piping & Instrument Diagrams.Ability to troubleshoot, solve, and repair issues with control systems and work safely with and around AC & DC voltages up to 120V.A Bachelor's in Electrical, Computer, or Automation Engineering or equivalent experience in the Process Automation field preferred.Position RequirementsUnderstands and is accountable for full compliance with safety and other EHS requirements.Maintain a thorough knowledge of production processes, equipment, and operations in the interest of developing, improving, and maintaining process and safety interlocksDevelop or modify Automation controls to achieve desired control processes, and troubleshoot systems to identify and resolve hardware or software deficienciesDevelop and maintain documentation of automation hardware and software related to automation control systemsAbility to work well within groups or with minimal supervision to meet department goalsCommunicate status updates and suggestions for improvementsPursue/maintain industry specific training and certifications relative to this position and for career advancementAbility to effectively coach and develop other colleaguesThe candidate must be capable of working in extreme temperatures. Must have the ability to climb stairs, lift and move a minimum of forty pounds, and sit and stand for long periods of time. Should be able to work in confined spaces and heights.Available for on-call rotation for off-hours, holiday, and weekend coverage.Occasional company travel may be requiredRelocation assistance is available with this position.This position offers a complete benefit package, including 401K/ESOP, pension, health, life and dental insurance.
