Companies to Work For in 2025. Job Summary The Milling Operations
Internship offers students hands-on experience in grain milling
operations, process optimization and plant engineering. Interns
will work closely with engineers, operators and maintenance teams
to learn the fundamentals of milling technology, equipment, and
quality control while contributing to real-world projects that
improve efficiency and product quality. Responsibilities: Manage
assigned projects for Summer 2026, with assistance from hiring
manager and other mill colleagues. Observe and assist full time
staff with daily milling operations, including monitoring and
adjusting equipment for optimal performance. Support process
improvement projects focused on efficiency, yield, and energy
reduction. Collect, analyze, and interpret data related to
production output, quality metrics, and equipment performance.
Participate in/observe equipment maintenance, troubleshooting, and
reliability initiatives. Shadow engineers and operators to gain
exposure to milling system design, automation, and controls. Assist
with safety audits and contribute to continuous improvement of
workplace safety practices. Help prepare technical reports,
standard operating procedures (SOPs), and process documentation.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams (quality, operations,
maintenance) on problem-solving initiatives. Understand daily grain
receiving, handling, storage, and shipping activities. Learn and
support compliance with OSHA, FDA, and other ADM safety standards.
Participate in facility housekeeping to maintain safe and efficient
working conditions. Assist in identifying process improvements to
enhance efficiency and reduce downtime. Participate in and/or lead
safety meetings, training sessions, and ops briefings. Present
findings, project results, and recommendations to engineering
leadership at the conclusion of the internship. Internship Program
Requirements: Education: Pursuing a 4-year degree in Milling
Science, Food Science and candidates in Mechanical Engineering,
Chemical Engineering or Biological Engineering with an interest in
food production. Minimum 3.0 GPA Transportation: Interns must have
their own reliable transportation to and from work. Geographical
Flexibility: Willing to relocate to one of our ADM locations in
North America. Background Check: Successful completion of a
background check is required. Physical Requirements: This
experience is physically demanding, and suited for those who desire
hands-on experience in an operations setting. Some tasks may
require lifting, the ability to climb ladders, and working in
confined spaces (including tanks and vessels). Availability: Must
be available for a summer internship from mid-May to early August

offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors,
including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and
