contributor to our inspiring, bold mission.POSITION OBJECTIVES:
- Understanding and effectively working with a wide variety of
data sources and archetypes, including but not limited to
electronic health records, insurance claims, patients reported
outcomes, social media, pre-clinical and non-clinical biologic and
mechanistic data, and patient clinical data, among others. - Nimbly
gleaning and exploring insights from these datasets and accurately
assessing their usefulness and limitations.
- Applying a breadth of data science methodologies as needed for
various projects and data types. Projects will require advanced
analytical and statistical methods, such as statistical inference
and modern analytical methods for machine learning and AI.
- Identifying and applying state-of-the-art data manipulation and
analysis tools, in various programming languages including SAS,
Python, and R, to develop visual data analytics.
- Develops team data strategies, goals, and priorities in data
science aligned with Takeda's business needs in asset and disease
strategies. -Understanding how data science projects fit at a macro
and micro level with the goal of using data science to better
understand the patient journey and to help tailor interventions
that maximize patient benefit.POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Independently represent Data Science function on projects
leading data strategies related to diseases, assets or other areas
of interest in Takeda's ecosystem.
- Play a leadership role in the development and review of data
science projects and their respective strategies, spanning
spontaneous data exploration in individual data sources to designed
and planned studies requiring the synthesis of many data
archetypes.
- Develop and support optimal data handling and data provenance
practices utilizing reproducible, interpretable data research
approaches
- Strengthen Takeda's advanced analytics toolkit by identifying
and applying emerging innovative techniques, as well as by
advancing the state of the art and developing novel analysis tools
as needed.
- Provide thought leadership in concepts related to data
acquisition and ingestion working with Data Architecture and IT. -
Understand respective systems security and provide support for data
transparency, disclosure, and governance. - Strategically connect
with Takeda enterprise projects related to the Digital Advisory
Board and the Global Data Council.
- Work closely with Takeda statisticians and other quantitative
experts to ensure statistical issues in data analysis are
addressed.
- Anticipate and communicate internal and external resource and
quality issues that may impact deliverables or timelines of the
program. - Propose and implement solutions. Escalate issues to
management as appropriate in a timely manner.
- Increase the internal impact of Takeda's data science work by
identifying opportunities across therapeutic or disease areas and
business units.
- Increase the external recognition of Takeda's data science work
by participating in conferences, publishing work and developing
external collaborations.CORE ELEMENTS RELATED TO THIS ROLE:
- Ability to apply a logical engineered approach to system design
and development: The successful candidate will take ownership and
drive complex projects to completion. This involves communicating
with IT and technical teams to make a variety of systems to work
cohesively together.
- Expert knowledge of programming languages such as SAS (Base,
Macro, GTL), Python (including PANDAS), R-Shiny. -
- The ability to leverage years of programming experience to
create standards and lead the team towards effective practices for
developing reliable, maintainable code.
- Strong Web-development experience including HTML, CSS and
JavaScript and knowledge of IIS server management is desired.
- Solid software development background with experience in a
variety of programming environments including writing shell scripts
in Linux or UNIX, and Windows. Knowledge of newer platforms
including AWS and Databricks is advantageous.EDUCATION, BEHAVIORAL
COMPETENCIES AND SKILLS:
- Education in a relevant field, for example a) PhD in a field
such as Statistics, Physics, Electrical Engineering, Biomedical
Engineering, Computer Science, Applied Mathematics or other
relevant field with at least 5 years of experience and a clear
interest in data science methods, or b) Master's degree with at
least 8 years relevant experience, or Bachlers degree with 12 years
experience.
- Professional history of successful development and
implementation of programmed utilities, software, or applications
in a collaborative working environment.
- Direct experience in the pharmaceutical industry or related
field required
- Previous experience leading a medium to large organization and
influencing senior-level management and key stakeholders is a
plus
- Proven track record of leading and driving business process
transformation and organizational culture change as well as
delivering on programs with complex business deliverables
- Health care business acumen with a comprehensive understanding
