Job Description
The Logistics Manager position manages and leads the operations
associated with the Logistics Department within the manufacturing
facility. This position is responsible for efficient, safe and the
profitable operation of the department; coordinating plans with
scheduling, maintenance, packaging, and quality departments. This
position also has responsibility for the implementation of safety
and quality systems for the entire department.
Qualifications
1. Effective use of all resources in the warehousing of oil
products, including materials, labor, and time.
2. Create measures where needed to verify efficiencies with the
development and implementation of action plans for continuous
improvement.
3. Establish attainable productivity and performance goals for the
department.
4. Train, coach, and develop supervisors and warehouse
employees.
5. Develop & maintain operating procedures.
6. Troubleshoot operational problems.
7. Be available for consultation on warehouse problems 24
hours/day.
8. Review the process flow and recommend process flow
improvements.
9. Manage the drop lot.
10. Control department spending for overtime & supplies.
11. Foster an atmosphere of teamwork, and use employee involvement
groups when appropriate.
12. Communicate & help plan maintenance issues.
13. Ensure food safety rules are being followed.
14. Guarantee safe work behaviors are being followed.
15. Ensure housekeeping standards are being met.
16. Review & appropriately file all paperwork.
17. Complete incident investigations for any accidents or property
loss.
18. Oversee daily logistic operations, including crewing,
coordination of inbound and outbound transportation, and optimizing
inventory levels, to achieve accurate and on-time customer
deliveries.
19. Delegate the ordering of supplies in a timely manner for
efficient operation.
20. Monitor controlled temperature warehouses to maintain integrity
of product.
21. Timely response after investigation for customer complaints and
product issues.
22. In a combined effort, with other departments, work toward
achieving excellent customer service ratings and maintain or
minimize departmental costs within budgeted levels.
23. Develop Logistics team members through coaching, mentoring, and
training for growth and advancement; provide back up for salaried
employee vacations/leaves.
24. Educate and lead the Team through the warehouse management
system.
25. Performs other duties and assignments as directed by the Plant
Manager.
Logistics Manager Competencies
Education: Prefer Bachelor's Degree in Operations Management,
Logistics Management, Business
Related Experience: 5 or more years of experience in food
operations preferred. Leadership experience at staff level, having
had salaried people as direct reports. Experience with employee
involvement, leading teams through new WMS implementation
Systems Skills: Must be PC literate with working knowledge of MS
Office, and Outlook. Required to have experience with warehouse
management system(s)
Additional Information
Physical: Sitting/Walking/Climbing as required in a manufacturing
environment. On your feet for most of the shift with occasional
lifting climbing stairs and ladders including rail cars and trucks.
The employee will also be required to use hands, arms and fingers.
The physical requirements are they must have the ability to lift 50
pounds, climb stairs, lift, bend, kneel, stand for long periods of
time, work in small spaces, and work with heights.
Sensory: Good Listening Skills; Public speaking abilities to
communicate with both hourly and salaried personnel. Along with the
listening skills you have to be able to determine the purpose of
what you're listening to and prioritize accordingly. Ability to
perform sensory testing on in-process and finished product samples,
must be able to distinguish issues from taste, smell or sight of
the product.
Mental/Reasoning: Organizational; Decision making ability;
Multi-tasking; Must have strong analytical and problem solving
abilities to accommodate a quick paced environment (a quick
thinker).
