Job Description:
To provide quality testing, as ordered by physicians, to aid in
the diagnosis of or rule out neurodiagnostic disease/disorder. To
provide quality care to patients and their family members.
- TECHNOLOGIST FOLLOWS PRE-TESTING PROTOCOLS AND PROCEDURES.The
technologist routinely checks for orders and reviews the
appointment log.The technologist will check with the coordinator of
any unclear orders.The technologist prepares rooms to be hospitable
and presentable prior to patient's arrival.The technologist ensures
proper working condition of equipment prior to testing.Technologist
will assure forms are filled out correctly.Technologist will assure
patient information was logged correctly.The technologist verifies
the identity of patient.Technologist will ask appropriate questions
to obtain a complete and correct history.The technologist knows the
proper electrode application protocol.Technologist explains
electrode application to reassure patient.The technologist
evaluates the patient to assess patient's mental and physical
condition.The technologist follows universal precautions and
isolation techniques as required.The technologist reports safety
issues to the coordinator.Test will be performed on the day
assigned without delay; the technologist will notify the
coordinator of any changes.The technologist will ensure that all
studies are being completed according to department procedure and
physician orders and follow ASET guidelines.
- TECHNOLOGIST PERFORMS ELECTRONEURODIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURES
ACCORDING TO PROTOCOL.Able to complete EEG set up on adults and
children within 25 minutes.Stimulates patients to produce, analyze
and record data from the central and peripheral nervous
system.Performs evoked potentials in the operating room and
intensive care units.Assesses depth of anesthesia and monitoring
patients in coma.Monitors and records EEGs in the Epilepsy Service
long-term care unit.Conducts patient evaluation in physiological
polysomnography.Prepares surgery patients and equipment for and
during carotid endarterectomy, electrocorticogrpahy and other
neurosurgical, orthopedic and otolaryngologic procedures.Performs
studies to determine and verify cerebral death.Performs EEG
recordings in all patient care setting.Accurately places EEG
electrodes according to 10/20 measurement system.Technologist will
assure that calibrations are performed correctlyTechnologist will
assure montages are appropriate for diagnosis.Technologist will
assure correct instrument changes are implemented.Technologist will
assure documentation on the study is correct and
complete.Technologist will assure procedures (e.g. sleep study,
MSLT, CPAP, Bi-Level, oxygen, procedure list primarily just sleep
and EEG, video monitoring, hyperventilation, photic stimulation,
nerve/muscle stimulation, etc.) are used properly.Technologist will
assure artifacts are noted and eliminated or monitored.Technologist
will assure abnormalities are noted during the tracing.Technologist
will assure efforts are made to enhance the
abnormality.Technologist will assure portable studies are done
according to procedures and standards.Technologist will assure
surgical procedures are done according to procedures and
standards.The technologist is able to utilizes, troubleshoot and
identify improper working of all equipment utilized in the lab.The
technologist uses appropriate grounding techniques.The Technologist
II can apply the principles of electronics and mathematics to
recording by knowing how amplifiers work and understanding polarity
of waveforms.The Technologist II knows how waveform displays are
effected by various filters and settings.Technologist will assure
background activity was identified correctly.Technologist will
assure normal variants were noted.PSG TESTING:Technologist will be
able to complete PSG set-up within 40 minutes in
adults.Technologist will be able to complete PSG set-up within 50
minutes in children.The technologist properly titrate the CPAP to
fit the patient's needs.Technologist will assure appropriate
troubleshooting techniques are utilized.Must be able to prepare and
record 2 PSG patients per night.Must be able to score PSG if only
one pat
