Job Description American Traveler is seeking a travel nurse RN Med Surg for a travel nursing job in Decatur, Illinois. Job Description & Requirements - Specialty: Med Surg - Discipline: RN - Start Date: 12/22/2025 - Duration: 13 weeks - 36 hours per week - Shift: 12 hours, nights - Employment Type: Travel /n Job Description/n American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Neuro unit night shift position in Illinois, requiring BLS, NIHSS, and at least two years of recent experience. /n /n Responsibilities/n - Work in the Medical Surgical Neuro unit of an acute care hospital - Level II Trauma center with 372 staffed beds - Night shifts available as either 4x12 or 3x12 (18:00–06:30) - Average daily census is 32 patients - Patient population includes neurological, cardiac, GI, respiratory, and post-surgical cases - Responsibilities include cardiac monitoring, remote telemetry, rapid response, colostomy and feeding tube care, IV therapy, and management of surgical drains - Uses Cerner for charting; prior experience required - Will float within scope as needed, including to affiliate hospitals - Expected to work every other weekend - No on-call requirement - Primary responsibilities include comprehensive care for neuro, cardiac, GI, and respiratory patients, including post-surgical care - Royal blue scrubs are required - All travelers are required to float within the hospital or to affiliate sites as needed - Teaching hospital experience and Level II trauma experience are preferred but not required - Non-locals and local candidates accepted, with no radius restriction - Maximum of 5 days RTO auto-approved; additional time off requires approval - Must be able to work 2 out of 3 major holidays during the assignment - Parking permit required and provided at no cost - First-time travelers are not accepted for this position /n /n Requirements/n - Active IL RN license required at time of application - Minimum two years of recent Med/Surg Neuro RN experience - BLS and NIHSS certifications required (AHA or Red Cross only; RQI not accepted) - Experience with telemetry monitoring, rapid response teams, heparin, insulin, PCA, blood product administration, central and peripheral line care, continuous bladder irrigation, wound vac, and respiratory devices such as CPAP/BiPAP and tracheostomy management - Cerner EMR experience required - Professional knowledge of isolation precautions and wound care - Must have experience caring for patients with CVA, traumatic brain injury, pre/post neuro surgery, and spinal cord injuries - Must provide references from supervisors within the past two years - Former permanent or PRN employees must be away for 12 months before applying as a traveler /n Benefits/n - High Pay and Bonuses - Medical, Dental and Vision Insurance with Day 1 Options - 401(k) Plan - Weekly Payroll Deposit - Free Online CEUs - Generous Housing Allowance - Travel and Licensure Reimbursements - Non-taxed Per Diem and Subsidy - Traveler Rewards and Discounts /n American Traveler Job ID P-641629.
