Job Description:

  • Prepares surfaces and applies finishes to preserve and enhance appearance of building interiors and furnishings. Qualifications To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
    • Must have reading skills adequate to understand material labels and warnings. Must be able to follow oral and written instructions. Must possess effective communication.Education and/or Other Requirements
      • High school diploma or equivalent. One to two years experience in basic painting (may be residential or commercial) or supervised training through a vocational education program. Environmental Factors
        • Must be able to work in all areas of the hospital, some of which are ill heated, and on the grounds. Typical hospital environment with exposure to dust, noise, dangerous equipment and chemicals, high places, bad weather, harmful substances, and dangerous situations and conditions, electricity and steam. Physical Demands
          • The physical demands described are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.Must have adequate mobility to access and work on a platform 36" above the finished floor. Must have sufficient arm strength to hold a loaded hawk. Must have visual and aural faculties sufficient to perform job duties safely and correctly in the assigned work area. Must not have acrophobia. May be required to work overtime and different shifts. Mental Demands
            • While performing the duties of this job, the employee must be able to work under stress and to adapt to changing conditions.
            • Ability to adhere to strict confidentiality requirements. Essential Functions and Job Duties
              • Performs surface preparation necessary to ensure proper adhesion of finish material, including treatment with power equipment when necessary; masks off areas to be protected.
                • Selects and applies finishing material for surface being coated, including proper color and finish grade.
                  • Removes any spatters, drips or overspray.
                  • Finishes edges in a neat, trim manner.
                    • Observes all safety measures.
                      • Erects and removes scaffolding
                      • Places ladders and walkboards and other painting equipment in proper and safe manner.
                      • Maintains MSDS sheets.
                        • Estimates cost of painting jobs, including time and materials needed.
                          • Maintains an adequate inventory of paint and equipment for handling all routine work.
                          • Orders necessary materials and consumables.
                          • Maintains updated pricing information for all materials on hand.
                            • Refinishes wood furniture, including application of wood stain and varnish.
                              • Tapes drywall for finishing. Repairs and finish-coats plastered areas.
                                • Maintains an adequate inventory of paint and equipment for handling all routine work by ordering the necessary materials and consumables. Maintains MSDS and updated pricing for all materials on hand.
                                  • Mask off areas to be protected. Removes any splatter drips or over-spray. Finished edges in a neat and trim manner.
