To provide technical expertise, experience, and guidance in development of major manufacturing, source changes, and value chain projects, working with internal/external suppliers to support/improve manufacturing productivity, quality, and cost effectiveness. Working with facility and Purchasing counterparts within Supply Chain, Purchasing, Manufacturing, Logistics, and Transportation on projects in the Footprint, Resourcing, and New Source Introduction space are the core of the role.

Job Duties

This position requires a high degree of experience and expertise in various or specific fields of manufacturing and value chain such as fabrication, machining, assembly, supply chain, logistics, manufacturing technology, etc. Incumbent needs to have a good understanding of product design to combine with process and value chain design expertise to provide for improved manufacturability and sourcing of parts and major components.

This position is actively involved with projects involving multiple facilities and suppliers. The ability to analyze the current value chain, develop feasibility studies to analyze proposals for improvement. After internal discussion, developing into an executable plan to be taken for executive and upper-leader approvals, and then execute those changes to the value chain through footprint/restructuring/sourcing projects.

Must understand product & process designs and have an understanding of the extended value chain. Will work with Design Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Supply Chain, Purchasing and Operations personnel both at Caterpillar and suppliers. Must be able to develop, manage and communicate with a network of resources across necessary business partners. Must ensure all are involved in the decision process so that sound decisions are made, and a safe, top-quality, efficient production process is realized to deliver business results. Uses knowledge gained through years of experience to explain to suppliers the tooling, dies, fixtures, controls, etc., needed to improve processes.

Provides direction and guidance to other manufacturing and supply chain personnel in a continuous effort to improve productivity. Works with suppliers (both internal and external) in the development of projects, which ensure the most efficient and cost-effective systems or operations solutions to produce quality products.

Adheres to established standards, policies and practices relating to quality, cost reduction, safety, ergonomics, etc., in performing assigned duties.

This position is responsible for the implementation of major systems, processes, New Source Introductions, sourcing changes, and the coordination of those systems with the facility (facilities) impacted.

The position manages the completion of its own work assignments and coordinates work with others. The position is challenged to quickly and correctly identify problems. The incumbent generally resolves issues by following departmental guidelines or applying a solution that worked in the past. The incumbent is free to determine the best way to complete job assignments in order to achieve desired results. Work is reviewed after completion, except in the most complex or high impact situations. Impacts key quality goals including Customer Satisfaction, Continuous Improvement, Timeliness, Accuracy, Efficiency, Cost Savings, Process Quality, Part Quality, Certifications, etc. The position meets or exceeds quality standard set for the measure(s) stated.

Basic Qualifications

This position requires a college degree in an appropriate engineering or technical discipline combined with a) minimum of 5 years of appropriate manufacturing or value chain experience as either a Manufacturing Engineer or Project Lead or b) minimum 2 years' experience as a Manufacturing Engineering Supervisor or Supply Chain Supervisor or c) appropriate equivalent external experience (2+ years experience).

Top Candidates will also have

Requires analytical ability as well as excellent oral and written communications skills and thorough knowledge concerning the capabilities of both internal and external suppliers.

Requires considerable experience in various manufacturing disciplines gained through previous staff and/ or supervisory assignments.

This position would normally have significant Manufacturing Engineering background and experience with Capital, NPI, or NSI Project Management, including project schedule management.

Preferred candidates will also have experience in Supply Chain, Logistics, Purchasing, or Value Chain roles.

The location for this position is Decatur, or East Peoria, IL

Domestic relocation assistance is available for this position.

This position may require 10% travel.
