Vernon, East St. LouisAs an Illinois Electric Apprentice Lineman and future Journeyman Lineman your role in creating Ameren's customer experience and driving customer satisfaction is crucial to our success. Your training in safety, communications, and your apprenticeship will ensure your success and ours as a company.As an Apprentice Lineman you will learn cutting edge electric grid technologies and will experience a diverse and inclusive culture.The safety, technical and communication skills you will learn in your apprenticeship will be tools you will use for life- both personally and professionally.Ameren Illinois is a regulated electric and gas delivery company based in Collinsville, Illinois. Our service territory spans 43,700 square miles, or about three-quarters of the state. Every day, we deliver electricity to 1.2 million electric and 812,000 natural gas customers in more than 1,200 communities in central and southern Illinois.Duties:

  • Under immediate supervision, working on a line construction or maintenance crew in the capacity of an apprentice for advancement to Journeyman Lineman
  • Advance in such work in accordance with an orderly program, initially on unenergized circuits, and later on work on energized circuits ranging progressively from lower to maximum voltage
  • Perform such work at first under the leadership of a Crew Leader or Line Foreman, and later independently after ability to perform each phase of the work skillfully and safely has been demonstrated; and to do similar and less skilled work as assigned.
  • Load and unload equipment, material, job site debris and maintain housekeeping according to Ameren's safety standards and procedures
    • Dig trenches and holes in an ergonomically safe manner
    • Perform construction work in the field, in all weather conditions, throughout the service territory
    • Use and maintain various hand and power tools and equipment
    • Must work in a team environmentMust work safely at all times as defined by Ameren's safety standards and procedures
    • Develop and maintain familiarity with the operation and maintenance of the boom truck, digger and bucket truck and various pulling units
      • Assist in digging holes and setting poles
      • Maintain cleanliness of the vehicle
      • Operate equipment and hydraulic tamp
      • Prepare materials for each project including cutouts, arrestors and transformers
      • Load and unload vehicles
        • Prepare vehicles for daily projects
        • Clean cover up materials, repair, clean and inspect tools on the vehicles
        • Assist with material stocking, pulling of stock for projects
        • Must not be afraid of heights
        • Ability to maintain the security of confidential information
          • Stay abreast of advances in technologyQualifications:
            • As a condition of acceptance on this job, candidates who are otherwise qualified will be required to take and pass the appropriate State/Federal driver's licensing requirements, medical testing and drug screening, the Construction and Skilled Trades (CAST) test and the company apprentice Lineman Evaluations.             • This position is covered by the representative IBEW Local bargaining agreement.
            • This position requires a 25 mile residency requirement
              • This position may be required to work more than 40 hours per week and is subject to emergency storm work
