Job Description Project Engineer- Decatur Corn Plant, Decatur ILThis is a full-time, exempt position. Job Summary: We are looking for a dedicated project engineer to assist with the scheduling, planning, forecasting, resourcing, and managing technical activities to ensure project accuracy and quality. Reporting to the Maintenance Manager, this role is responsible for the engineering and technical disciplines of ongoing projects and will establish inspection criteria for the proper implementation of all the elements of a project. Projects will include; carpentry, flooring, upgrades to facility common areas, piping projects and equipment relocation projects.To be a successful project engineer, you should have the ability to work with multiple discipline projects and demonstrate excellent project management and supervision skills. You should also have excellent organizational, time management, leadership, and decision-making skills.Essential Job Functions:Write and complete Capital Expenditures.Preparing, scheduling, coordinating, and monitoring of assigned engineering projects.Formulating project parameters and assigning responsibilities to the most capable employees and monitoring the project team.Interacting with clients, interpreting their needs and requirements, and representing them in the field.Performing quality control tasks on budgets, schedules, plans, and personnel performance and reporting on the project's status.Cooperating and communicating with the project manager and other project participants and collaborating with senior engineers to create more efficient project methods and to maintain the project's profitability.Reviewing the engineering tasks and initiating the necessary corrective actions.Developing specifications for the project's needed equipment.Creating frameworks to measure the project's metrics and data collection.Establishing field test methods and methods for monitoring the quality of those tests.Ensuring the project's compliance with the applicable codes, practices, policies, performance standards, and specifications.Contributes to cost management efforts by monitoring expenditures; identifying variances; implementing corrective actions.Is a safety leader by participating in safety programs and improvement efforts, actively promotes a healthy work environment by following company policies and procedures.Takes an active role in maintenance skill enhancement by researching, developing and leading educational opportunities for maintenance colleagues.Review the scope of work and perform field walkdowns for approved work orders to determine the scope and required resources to complete the work.Edit work orders in CMMS by inputting all the necessary planning information that insures safe and efficient execution of jobs.Order all required materials, perform receipt and quality verification prior to scheduling workPerform frequent backlog reviews and remove completed workordersLead departmental scheduling meetings to build a schedule that effectively and efficiently utilizes all available resources to perform maintenance work for the following week.Communicate the status of ongoing work with department leadership and make work plan adjustments accordinglyAssign duties and examine work during and after completion to ensure quality, completeness and conformance to policies and proceduresAcquire materials proper resources for ongoing jobs as job scope changesUnderstands their role in food safety and quality systems, actively participates in food safety efforts and ensures all activities conform to good manufacturing practices.Responsible for utilizing the Performance Excellence process. Work any and all hours required to complete tasks as needed.Job Qualifications:A Bachelor's degree in engineering or a related field, or 10 yrs or more of industrial plant maintenance/production experience.4 or more years of project planning experience.Excellent computer literacy and knowledge of design and visualization software.The ability to work with multiple discipline projects.Able to conform to the needs of the fluid and ever changing maintenance environment.Excellent project management and supervision skills.Excellent organizational, time management, leadership, and decision-making skills.Strong written and verbal communication skills.Knowledge of applicable codes, policies, standards, and best practices.Extensive knowledge and experience with our CMMS (Maximo)Detailed understanding of a food manufacturing plant operation and maintenance.Working Conditions:DustChemicals / IrritantsThe scope of the position requires exposure to and use of chemicals, solvents, and cleaners common to mechanical work that may be hazardous and/or cause injury if specific instructions regarding their mixture, use, and disposal/storage are not properly followedInside areas:Spring / Summer: Temperatures in some areas of the facility will be up to or exceed 100 degreesFall / Winter: Temperatures in the facility may be at or below freezingOutside areas:Spring / Summer: Outside temperature may be up to or exceed 100 degrees with potential for high humidity; may be exposed to inclement weather conditions including, but not limited to, rain and windFall / Winter: Outside temperatures may reach freezing or below; may be exposed to inclement weather including, freezing rain, sleet, snow, and windSome manufacturing processes within the facility are highly reliant on machinery and other processing equipment and, as a result, noise levels may reach or exceed 85 decibels and require use of hearing protection for most of the work shiftPhysical Requirements:Ability to lift and transport materials and equipment weighing up to thirty (30) pounds on a frequent basis, up to fifty (50) pounds on an occasional basisLifting or carrying of weights over fifty (50) pounds is rare; employees are encouraged to request assistance in lifting or carrying objects that weigh more than fifty (50) poundsAbility to traverse up to two (2) miles during the course of a work dayAbility to move about or to a work site by stooping, bending, kneeling, or squatting frequently during the course of a work day; may require periods of prolonged sitting or standingAbility to operate equipment or diagnose/detect issues of machinery that may be located at different heights; may require work on ladders, scaffolding, or other work at heightsFull range of physical motion is required in order to operate manual and electrically powered tools and electrical test equipment, to move throughout the facility, including climbing stairs in all buildings, and to work at heightsRelocation assistance may be provided per company guidelines.This position offers a complete benefit package, including 401K/ESOP, pension, health, life and dental insurance.
